Hemu is often introduced by a photograph from above: wooden roofs, a river and trees spreading across the valley. The view is a good reason to come, but staying long enough to walk at ground level gives a fuller introduction. Hemu has a Tuva cultural context alongside the guesthouses and visitor experiences of a contemporary tourism destination. Treat a guesthouse, a museum or performance, and a private home as different spaces; ask what has actually been arranged and do not expect a community frozen in the past.
