What the public site shows
Public stories may show names, faces, approved quotes, and relationship context only when the relevant person has granted that scope. Consent evidence, private contact details, editorial notes, and original GPS metadata are not sent to the browser.
Editorial publication
Drafts stay private until I choose to publish them. I avoid sharing private location details and can revise or remove a story or photograph when needed.
Contact messages
The contact form asks for your name, one reply channel, your general intent, an optional date and group size, and your message. Do not send passport, medical, identity-document, or payment information. I use Resend, a transactional email provider, to deliver the message to my private inbox. The site does not maintain a separate inquiry database.
Guest Notes
If Guest Notes are open on a Guide or Journal, you may leave a note using a public name or nickname, an optional email address, and your message. Your nickname, note, publication date, and any Reply from Amu become public only after I review and publish the note. Your email address is never shown publicly and is used only if I need to reply. Guest Notes do not create an account or public profile.
Please do not include email addresses, phone numbers, booking or order information, exact travel dates, passport details, medical information, payment information, or other private details in the note itself. I may decline, hide, or remove a note to protect privacy or keep the conversation useful.
Self-drive route feasibility requests
The first self-drive review asks for nationality and expected entry basis, planned dates and ports, vehicle registration country and technical category, ownership and driver-class summaries, restricted-region status, group and vehicle counts, route flexibility, and any unresolved China traffic incident. It does not ask for passport, licence, registration or medical-document scans. Please do not enter document numbers, a full VIN, health information or payment details.
The request uses the same contact-message delivery described above and is not stored in a separate enquiry database. Tool analytics records only the public page path and the completed action, never the values entered into the route, border, vehicle or altitude tools.
Shanghai Short-Stay Plan
The planning request asks only for the travel details needed to assess and deliver the service: arrival and departure, hotel or area, group and luggage, mobility or pacing needs, available time, interests, name, email, optional WhatsApp or WeChat contact, and any extra help you want evaluated separately. These details are stored in the private service desk so I can qualify the request, reply, and keep an operational record. Do not submit passport, identity-document, bank-card, or unnecessary medical details.
A planning request also stores basic source attribution so I can tell how someone found the service: the first page path on this site, the referring website domain when the browser sends one, and standard campaign fields if they are present in the link (`utm_source`, `utm_medium`, `utm_campaign`, `utm_content`, `utm_term`). Arbitrary query strings, full page addresses, WhatsApp text, email addresses, and travel dates are not stored as analytics. I may later note a corrected source, such as a community reply or a partner referral, in the private service desk.
When PayPal payment is enabled, checkout and invoices are hosted by PayPal. China with Amu receives provider references and payment status, but this website does not collect or store your card details. An email message is not treated as proof of payment; the booking status changes only after a server confirmation from PayPal.
Retention
Resend's current documented retention period for email data is 30 days. A delivered copy remains in my inbox until it is no longer needed and is manually deleted. You may ask me to delete a delivered conversation from the systems I control.
A published Guest Note remains with its Guide or Journal until it is hidden or removed. Pending, hidden, and spam notes are kept only for moderation and abuse prevention while they remain useful. Optional Guest Note email addresses are private and are deleted when they are no longer needed for a reply or removal request. You may ask me to hide or delete a note by using the contact page.
Service inquiries, quotes, payment references, and delivery status are retained only while needed for service delivery, customer support, accounting, dispute handling, and applicable legal obligations. You may ask for deletion of information that is no longer required, but transaction records may need to be retained where the law requires it.
Abuse prevention
Vercel and the application may process connection metadata, including an IP address, to protect inquiry and Guest Note endpoints from abuse. Raw IP addresses are not published or stored with Guest Notes. The application keeps only the temporary request counts or non-readable abuse-control values needed to limit repeated submissions.
Analytics and cookies
The production site uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand anonymous page views, popular pages, referrers, broad country, device, browser, and operating-system trends. It does not use analytics cookies, create visitor profiles, fingerprint devices, record sessions, or support advertising profiling.
A small set of custom events records reading progress and interactions with public Guides, Journals, Places, and enquiry links. Those events contain only the public page path and, where relevant, one public content identifier or general intent. They never include names, contact details, message text, exact travel dates, group size, payment information, or precise location. Vercel provides a 12-month reporting window on the current Pro plan.
Consent withdrawal
A person shown in a story may withdraw consent. The affected story or media is then unpublished, anonymized, or revised according to scope. Revoked content is a hard publication blocker in the editorial system.
