Yu Garden is the historic, ticketed garden; the commercial lanes around it are a separate, free-to-enter district. Arrive for the 09:00 opening if the garden is your priority, allow 60-90 minutes inside, then cross the Nine-Turn Bridge area and explore selectively. The distinction matters: bazaar opening hours, festival lights and social-media night scenes do not describe access to the garden itself.
