Wukang Road and Anfu Road make a rewarding half-day city walk through Shanghai's historic residential fabric. Start at Wukang Mansion, continue north past Ferguson Lane and the tourist information centre at No 393, then turn east along Anfu Road. Come for buildings and street rhythm rather than a list of shops, and remember that this remains an active neighbourhood.
